we'll have the influx of cooler air across the area from canada. you can see just a few clouds skirting through here but not too much there to talk about. look at these temperatures from yesterday. 96degrees at national airport. breaking a record at dulles of 93 degrees. and 92 at baltimore. now, 96, we're some 14 degrees warmer than we should be. today, we are nowhere near that. we talked about this earlier. we are pretty close to almost a 20-degree temperature difference by the time we head through into this afternoon. it is 67 right now at national airport. 55 at gaithersburg. we have agot 58 at baltimore. 59 at manassas and 65 to the south at fredericksburg. we have tropical storm igor to talk about, moving very slowly. maximum sustained winds at 40 miles per hour. right now, there are watches in effect for the cape verde islands. other than that, not a whole lot going on. there is a chance it could possibly fizzle out. we'll hope so but we'll watch it. that ridge of high pressure building its way in. we are talking upper 70s today compared to

there is some cooler air up into canada and we will begin to reach in and tap some of this cooler air as we get into monday and tuesday of next week. but then we're going to warm up just right back up into the middle 80s for the middle part of next week. listen, major hurricane karl made landfall late this afternoon just north of veracruz mexico. this is the strongest hurricane every reported down here in the southern gulf of mexico. technically the bay of kampichi. good news here, if there is any, that the impact, the highest winds stayed just a little bit north of veracruz. matter, vara cruz, generally in the lower 140 mile an hour range. so the impact of the winds has stayed north and it was weakening as it made its john shore move into southern mexico late this afternoon. again, though, the storm surge, 12 to 15 feet with this major hurricane making land fall. in terms of karl, it's weakened substantially, moving into the upper elevations of mexico. winds are down to 90 miles an hour. again, continuing to move to the west and it will break up over the mountains of mexico. a lot of

this is where the front is and this is a fairly refreshing air mass, too, coming down out of canada. it will get here not for tomorrow and not for wednesday, but as we start getting into thursday and friday, some of this cool air will come visit us here on the east coast. so a couple more warm days and we'll cool off nicely for the end of the week. 75 in the city now, quantico 76 degrees, still holding right around 70 degrees back out to the west of us, temperatures tonight should settle down to the 60s for most locations. here is tropical storm hermine and it has made landfall now at about 9:00, 40 miles south of brownsville, texas. the deal here with hermean is it's going to be an incredible -- hermine is it's going to be an incredible rain producer. brownsville could pick up as many as 8 inches of rain and for northern mexico up into southern central texas there could be isolated spots that pick up as much as a foot of rain. texas needs that. hopefully they don't get a foot because that's a lot by anybody's standpoint. the winds have come down a little bit. it maxed out at 65 mile
